May 28, 2009 at 5:48 am | In The BIG Trip | Leave a CommentWell I’ve been back from the trip now for nearly 2 weeks and finally caught up with things here.
The trip?
I flew from Brisbane to Adelaide, caught the Indian Pacific to Perth, then a 9 day camping trip from Perth back to Adelaide, a few days in Adelaide and then home.
17 days all up and what a great lot of memories.
I’m going to break this up into small daily doses so you don’t get bored.
My trip started at 2am on Wed 29th April when I had to be up, packed, and trundle my bag up a hill to meet the Door2Door coach to take me to Brisbane airport.
I suppose I’m like most people-hoping that the bus company will be efficient and not forget me-but no worries-bus was there at 3.10am as promised.
This time had seemed too early to me to be picked up as my flight didn’t leave until 6.30am, but the driver had quite a few pickups around the Gold Coast and it was after 4am before we actually headed to the airport.
I was travelling on Virgin Blue and had done seat allocation yesterday so I was expecting a quick check-in. I couldn’t believe how many people were before me in the Virgin line-there must have been a number of flights leaving early.
Got thru the line reasonably quickly and then off to the security.
Once again I got stopped and had to take off my shoes-I wear Rockports for walking and these shoes have a metal [iece in the sole for support, so I know that my chances of getting thru the security is usually pretty small. Once thru I found a place to eat the sandwiches I had made for breakfast and after a wander around the terminal I settled down to wait.
